Suicide is the eighth leading cause of death for Minnesotans and tenth nationally. In 2019, 830 Minnesotans died by suicide. From 1999-2017, suicide deaths steadily increased by 53 percent.
Suicides are not experienced equally across age groups, genders, or geography in Minnesota. Per 100,000 Minnesotans, 4.8 women and 21.6 men died by suicide in 2018.
